The Washington State Hospital Association says COVID-19 hospital admission rates “look better” but remain high.

CEO Cassie Sauer says deaths continue to rise, which is expected two to four weeks after a surge of hospitalizations.

She said about 30 people in the state are dying of the coronavirus each day but most them didn’t have to die.

“We really want to urge people to get vaccinated because we’ve heard from families that grief has even more layers now. For the feeling we could have prevented this,” says Sauer. “We could have prevented the loss of our loved one.”

The Seattle Times reports that as of two weeks ago Washington’s average hospitalization rate was about 14.7 admissions per 100,000 people, down from 17.7 admissions per 100,000 people in late August.
