ANACORTES, Wash. – If you’ve ridden Washington state ferries this summer chances are you’ve been late getting to your destination.
An analysis of ferry system data shows boats are running behind schedule more this year than in the past decade, especially on the Anacortes/San Juan Islands route.
While this route usually records more delays than others, nearly half of all June sailings ran behind schedule.
That’s well short of the system’s on-time goal of 95%.
The ferry system attributes the lower on-time performance to a staffing shortage and a higher number of passengers on busy routes.
