BELLINGHAM, Wash. — With the market for artificial trees growing in recent years, Americans who just want a good old fashioned pine tree are seeing it get a bit more expensive, especially in Washington.
ChamberOfCommerce.org found prices for the same six-foot pine tree vary greatly from state to state, with North Dakota paying the least at $33 and New York paying the most at $90.
Washington buyers have the 10th highest average price in the U.S. at about $68.
A national tree shortage came up in the past few years as trees were maturing that were planted during the recession, which hit Christmas tree growers hard and caused a cut back in production.
