OLYMPIA, Wash. — You’ll soon be required to wear a mask by law when away from home.
Governor Jay Inslee announced the statewide mandate at a news conference Tuesday afternoon as infection rates increase in parts on Washington, including Whatcom County.
Whatcom County Health Department Director Erika Lautenbach says we don’t have a lot of tools to fight this virus besides physical distancing, washing hands, staying home when sick and wearing masks.
The governor’s order makes it a misdemeanor to not wear a mask, which she says makes her a bit uncomfortable, but she thinks more mask wearing is incredibly important.
The requirement takes effect on Friday.
