WASHINGTON, D.C. — Washington was named the number one Bicycle-Friendly state in the nation.
The League of American Bicyclists analyzed all 50 states and compared each one’s infrastructure and funding, education, legislation and enforcement, policies and programs, and evaluation and planning.
Washington earned an “A” grade in policies and programs and a “B” in the other four categories.
The League also compared the number of “bicycle friendly actions” taken by each state, which are actions they believe are key indicators of a state’s commitment to improving bicycling.
The City of Bellingham has won multiple state awards for its successful Bicycle Master Plan.
