OLYMPIA, Wash. — Washington’s Insurance Commissioner is placing strict regulations on short-term health insurance plans the Trump Administration wants to allow you to buy.

While new federal rules under Trump allow people to buy “short-term limited-duration insurance” plans and renew them for up to three years, Insurance Commissioner Mike Kriedler is limiting them to three months in Washington.

Among the regulations placed by Kreidler is a ban on allowing consumers to renew the plans, and making companies improve disclosure of the coverage limits to consumers.

Kriedler fears that the plans, which are not required to cover preexisting conditions, will erode the power of the Affordable Care Act.
