OLYMPIA, Wash. – If you’re a high school student, make sure you don’t skip your civics class this Friday.

January 14th is Temperance and Good Citizenship Day in public high schools across Washington State.

High School seniors will be able to register to vote during their social studies classes, either by filling out a printed form or going to VoteWA.gov.

And all 16- and 17-year-olds will be able sign up as “future voters,” and be automatically registered to vote when they turn 18.

The observance is part of the state’s civics curriculum and was enacted in 1923 to promote citizen engagement.

For more information on registering to vote, go to VoteWA.gov.
