OLYMPIA, Wash. — As part of a joint project between Cyndi Lauper’s True Colors Fund and the National Law Center on Homelessness and Poverty, Lauper unveiled a new report Thursday showing Washington ranks first in helping vulnerable youth.

With experience living on the streets in her late teens, years before her rise to pop music stardom, Lauper now advocates for homeless and displaced youth. She created the True Colors Fund in 2008.

The State Index on Youth Homelessness report looked at sixty-one metrics in all 50 states and DC, and provides a snapshot of legal and environmental barriers homeless youth are experiencing.

States were scored on a 100 point scale, and while Washington topped the list, it only scored a 65.

Massachusetts, Connecticut, California and Colorado round out the top 5.
