OLYMPIA, Wash. – Washington Secretary of State Kim Wyman has accepted a position as an election security expert in the Biden administration.
She says in a statement that she’ll be taking a new role as the Senior Election Security Lead for the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA).
Wyman says she’s honored to be able to share her decades of experience at the federal level and that she remains committed to protecting the integrity of the nation’s elections.
The Republican has overseen Washington’s vote-by-mail system since 2013 as Secretary of State and has consistently vouched for it’s security.
“Election offices across the state have not only made physical security measures, like having logs and secured areas to store ballots, but also cybersecurity measures,” says Wyman.
She’ll step down from her state position on November 19th.
Governor Inslee will need to appoint Wyman’s replacement, who will serve as Secretary of State until the 2022 General Election.
