OLYMPIA, Wash. – State lawmakers kicked off a new legislative session yesterday, Monday, January 10th.

Ongoing COVID-19 issues have prompted legislators to perform most of their work remotely in an attempt to limit the possibility of COVID exposures.

Since Friday, two Democratic senators, Senate Majority Leader Andy Billig and State Senator John Lovick, announced they had tested positive for the coronavirus.

Billig said he had no symptoms and Lovick described his symptoms as mild.

Just five lawmakers were present in the House and 15 appeared in person in the Senate.

Only credentialed press will be allowed in the public galleries overseeing the chamber floors.
