WASHINGTON, D.C. — Washington State legislators are reacting to yesterday’s violence at the nation’s capitol.

2nd District Democratic US Representative Rick Larsen yesterday laid blame for it at President Trump’s feet, saying there was a peaceful demonstration and rally and then the President encouraged people to march on the Capitol and “we got what we got.”

He says he and his staff were safe in the nearby congressional office building during the siege of the capitol.

5th District Republican Representative Cathy McMorris Rogers reversed course and did not object to the electoral vote certification last night.

In a statement, she called yesterday’s violence disgraceful and Un-American, saying Americans should use “Constitutional tools and legal processes available to seek answers to their questions about the 2020 election.”

Democratic Senator Maria Cantwell posted on Twitter that she condemns the violence and crimes that were committed.

Democratic 1st District Representative Susan DelBene and Representative Larsen released statements urging Vice President Mike Pence to invoke the 25th amendment to remove President Trump from office.

In that event, the vice president would need the support of over half the cabinet and would then need approval of two-thirds of both chambers of Congress.
