OLYMPIA, Wash. – The Washington State Department of Ecology is planning on how to implement Governor Inslee’s order to ban sales of new gas-powered cars in 2035, even as a recent poll shows tepid support for the plan.

KING 5 reports Ecology is going over public comments, drafting responses and considering whether rules will need to be changed for the plan to be put in place

State lawmakers passed a bill setting a target of 2030 for sales to be limited to non-fossil fuel vehicles.

Inslee later announced that Washington will adopt regulations passed in California setting 2035 as a hard date.

A recent poll of Washington residents found that just 38% support the governor’s plan while 48% are opposed.
