SEATTLE (AP) – The State Attorney General, two Washington congressional representatives and Seattle’s mayoral candidates are among those calling for action if President Trump ends a program protecting young people brought into the U.S. illegally.

The president is expected to make an announcement Tuesday that Deferred Action for Child Arrivals will be dismantled, with a six-month delay before taking effect.

“That is un-American, unjust, and we are not going to let that happen,” Democratic Representative Pramila Jayapal said.

KIRO reports Jayapal is working with Republican Dave Reichert on the Bridge Act, which would protect DACA recipients.

Seattle mayoral candidates Jenny Durkan and Cary Moon also spoke against ending DACA. “It is exactly the opposite of our progressive values. It is the exactly the opposite of what America stands for, and we all have to stand up and resist,”  Moon said.

State Attorney General Bob Ferguson said his office will file a lawsuit to end what he called Trump’s “cruel and illegal policy” and defend DACA recipients. Ferguson expects other states to join him.
