BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Washington voters are a bit more optimistic heading into 2018.

Pollster Stuart Elway says people generally said things would get better for their country, state, community and household in the new year.

While sharp divides remain between Democrats and Republicans on the national outlook, they’re closer when it comes to their families. “Republicans are a little more optimistic, 84 percent said things are getting better for their household. 56 percent of Democrats agree,” Elway said.

And they’re almost at a consensus on where the state is headed. “56 percent of Republicans and 57 percent of Democrats agreed that they think things are getting better in the state,” Elway said. “That was a curious finding.”

Independents tended to be a bit more optimistic than Democrats, but less so than Republicans.
