BIRCH BAY, Wash. — The Birch Bay Waterslides kicked off summer with a splash last week as one of the hosts of the World’s Largest Swimming Lesson, all for a good cause.
On Thursday, dozens of countries and various cities across the U.S. participated in the WLSL as part of the organization’s effort to prevent and reduce drowning deaths in children.
The WLSL says drowning is still the leading cause of unintended, injury-related death for children in the U.S., ages 1-4.
It officially won the Guinness World Record for largest simultaneous swimming lesson in 2014, but says making sure people can swim is its main priority with more than half of Americans unable to swim.
Birch Bay Waterslides opened for the summer this weekend.
