BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Exceptional teamwork between Bellingham Police and the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office took a serious criminal off the streets Tuesday night.
BPD had probable cause for the arrest of Juan Alberto Villarreal on two weapons charges.
The Sheriff’s Office was aware of aware of this and notified the police department when they spotted Villarreal, who immediately fled to his apartment and refused to come out.
BPD’s SWAT and Crisis Negotiator Teams were activated to assist in the high-risk arrest.
Residents of the apartment complex were evacuated and officers used a loudspeaker to announce Villarreal was under arrest and order him out of his apartment.
Villarreal eventually complied and was booked into jail.
Bail was set at $200,000 yesterday.
