WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. – A Western Washington University student died in a hiking accident in Whatcom County early Saturday.
The Whatcom County Sheriff’s office reports Liam MacDonald and some friends were camping east of Glacier when they decided to explore a deep crevasse.
MacDonald fell while climbing down the crevasse and his friends found him unresponsive.
Emergency personnel were called at about 3 a.m. and they declared the 19 year old dead at the scene.
Western is offering grief counseling and other support.
