BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Western Washington University students are planning to take part in a nation wide protest of gun violence Wednesday, four weeks after the high school massacre in Parkland, Florida.

The WWU Students Against Gun Violence say on their Facebook page that they’ll walk out of classes at 10 a.m. and hold a die-in at Red Square for 17 minutes.

Organizers say it’s “to protest Congress’ inaction to do more than tweet thoughts and prayers in response to the gun violence plaguing our schools and neighborhoods.”

Students at Whatcom Community College have also planned a demonstration in the Laidlaw/Syre Courtyard with one minute planned for each of the victims of the Parkland shooting.

Ed Harri, VP of Instruction at WCC, wrote to faculty and staff in an email Monday that the college supports community members expressing their 1st amendment rights, as well as those who choose to refrain from demonstrating.
