BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Western Washington University is suspending in-person classes because of the recent uptick of COVID-19 cases in Whatcom County.

University President Sabah Randhawa says Western has seen what they view as a sudden and significant increase in positive student tests.

He also notes that there are concerning COVID-19 trends in Bellingham and Whatcom County.

Based on the need to slow transmission and avoid overwhelming healthcare services, the University decided to go fully remote starting Thursday.

The University also is suspending in-person athletic practices and training until further notice.
