BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Black bears seem to be out like never before this spring, but Fish and Wildlife Sgt. Jennifer Maurstad says it’s actually not that unusual.

“In the springtime, our phones blow up.”

There have been bear sightings in the vicinity of Lake Whatcom, Toad Lake, Tweed Twenty, Blaine, and the Lummi reservation.

Marustad tells KOMO they’re attracted to garbage and bird feeders.

“If you have a bird feeder outside, we suggest that you bring that in.”

One juvenile black bear that’s been caught on video several times has become quite the celebrity.

Fish & Wildlife is trying to trap it so they can move it to a different location.
