BELLINGHAM, Wash. – No more tackle football for Whatcom County Boys and Girls Clubs.
After running a tackle football program for kids in grades four through eight for about 50 years, the Boys and Girls Club has announced it’s ending its involvement in the sport.
Boys and Girls Clubs of Whatcom County CEO Heather Powell told The Bellingham Herald that concerns about the lasting effects of head trauma led to the decision.
She said running a safe program would be cost prohibitive, so the 2017 season will be the last season the sport is offered.
