BELLINGHAM, Wash. — The local rate of new coronavirus positives is declining as the death rate from the disease continues to drop and hospital availability holds up.

The state health department reported 10 new positive coronavirus tests for Whatcom County residents on Friday, the most recent data available.

That’s a 7-day total of 154 positives, down from 208 for the week prior to that. and the second weekly drop in a row.

One death has been attributed to COVID-19 among county residents in the past month on 979 positive tests, for a mortality rate of 0.1% during that time.

Regarding hospital availability, 10% of north region hospital beds are in use for suspected or confirmed COVID patients, 18% of all adult beds overall available.

44% of ICU capacity is open in the region that includes Whatcom and Skagit Counties.
