The Whatcom County Council is taking up water quality.
It’s considering a hike in the property tax that pays for flooding and water quality issues.
The Bellingham Herald reports the owner of a $300,000 dollar house would pay $14.40 more under the proposed 34% tax increase.
And the council is considering whether to create the Lake Whatcom Stormwater and Utility District.
Property owners in the district would be assessed a fee to help improve water quality in Lake Whatcom.
Public hearings will be held next Tuesday, December 5th.
