BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The temporary ban on wells in parts of rural Whatcom County continues.

A majority of the Whatcom County Council decided to continue the moratorium, instituted in response to the State Supreme Court’s Hirst decision.

Nearly an hour of testimony opposed that decision.

Councilmembers said their hands are tied because of the high court’s ruling and the state legislature’s inability to create a solution.

The ban has stopped many property owners from building homes.
