BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Tim Ballew will fill the At Large position on the Whatcom County Council after Todd Donovan stepped down.
Council member Satpal Sidhu addressed concerns that people had voiced over a possible conflict of interest with Tim Ballew, who is the former Chairman for Lummi Indian Business Council.
“There is a suspicion or fear that if this person from Lummi Nation serving on the council, somehow it is assumed as a conflict,” Sidhu said. “I don’t buy that argument. We are all citizens of this country, and we all want to serve.”
Five council members voted in favor while one, Tyler Byrd, voted against.
