BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The Whatcom County Council is one step closer to filling the open at-large position.
At a special meeting Tuesday night, the Council winnowed a long list of applicants to eight persons, including former Whatcom County Executive Pete Kremen, who did not submit his name for consideration; he received a vote to do so from Tyler Byrd.
The Bellingham Herald reports that Kremen has declined his nomination.
Other persons forwarded included former Whatcom County and Bellingham City Council member Seth Fleetwood, retired Whatcom County Sheriff’s Deputy Cliff Langly, and Natalie McLendon, who currently serves on the Whatcom County Planning Commission.
Each of the 8 forwarded will have three minutes to speak to the Council at a meeting next Tuesday night, at which point the Council expects to complete the appointment.
