BELLINGHAM, Wash. – After hearing more than an hour of public comments Tuesday night, the Whatcom County Council approved an emergency ordinance allowing permits for rural development of property requiring wells.

Commenters from all over the county were overwhelmingly in favor of the council passing the ordinance that would basically allow permits to start being issued Wednesday.

Only two people spoke against the ordinance.

The measure passed on a 6-1 vote with Todd Donovan voting no.

Now the council will begin the process of putting a permanent fix to the Hirst decision in place and will discuss it at their February 13th meeting.
