WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. – School-age kids are now experiencing higher rates of COVID-19 than any other age group in Whatcom County.
The County Health Department says the 14-day case rate for kids 5 to 17 years old in some sub-areas of the county are running five times higher than the county average.
The Blaine and Lynden School Districts are seeing the highest rates among kids while Bellingham and Mount Baker have the lowest.
The Health Department is asking families to talk with kids about staying safe at social gatherings like dances and sporting events by meeting outdoors, masking, distancing and getting vaccinated if eligible.
