BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The CDC upgraded the county’s transmission status to “medium” late last week.

Whatcom County had been in the “low” range earlier this month, but had fluctuated between “low” and “medium” through the summer.

CDC data shows that the latest update was caused by an increase in COVID-related hospitalizations.

However, overall cases still remain at their lowest levels since April.

The CDC recommends that people in Whatcom County mask up if they are immunocompromised or have other health issues that could cause a serious bout of the virus.
