BELLINGHAM, Wash. – A boat that’s given thousands of local students a chance to learn the science and biology of Bellingham Bay needs a little love.

The Snow Goose is a 65 foot vessel built in 1973 and is now a floating classroom.

Dan Linden is a former teacher who is now her captain, head mechanic and science officer.

He takes about 1500 students out on the bay each fall and spring to learn about water quality, marine life in the bay and even how to pilot the Snow Goose.

He also takes adults on educational tours in Alaska waters during other times of the year.

But the pandemic has affected the project’s finances and a GoFundMe page has been set up to help pay for needed repairs and upkeep.
