OLYMPIA, Wash. — A Whatcom County Superior Court Judge is among twelve applicants to replace state Supreme Court Chief Justice Mary Fairhurst after she retires in January.
Judge Raquel Montoya-Lewis is among the list of judges, lawyers and even a Supreme Court clerk who have applied.
Governor Jay Inslee appointed her to the Superior Court in 2014 and she has since been elected to the post.
The Olympian reports Inslee’s legal team will interview the applicants in coming weeks and make recommendations to the governor.
His pick will serve through the end of 2020.
Fairhurst is stepping down to concentrate on her health while she undergoes cancer treatment.
