WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. – A Whatcom County man is facing hate crime charges after assaulting his daughter over her sexual orientation.
Court documents state that police were called to a local high school on April 14th after the girl showed symptoms of a concussion during the day.
The student had told a school counselor that she had been assaulted the night before by her father.
She told investigators that she had been caught kissing her girlfriend by her father and believed she was assaulted because he didn’t approve of her sexual orientation.
The 38-year-old man is accused of shoving the girl into a doorframe and restricting her airflow for over two minutes.
He was taken into custody but has since been released from the Whatcom County Jail.
