BELLINGHAM, Wash. — A Whatcom County man was sentenced to a month in jail for embezzling thousands of dollars.
John Murray, the former vice president of The Wahl Water Association serving a portion of Whatcom County northeast of Bellingham, was accused of embezzling more than $6,000 from the company last year after the treasurer reported that their bank account showed several unauthorized transactions, including cash withdrawals at ATMs.
Murray pleaded guilty earlier this month to one count of first-degree theft.
In addition to serving a one-month jail sentence, he will pay restitution and court fees.
