WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. – Whatcom County has received $905,821 in grant money from the state to help the homeless during the outbreak.

It’s part of $30 million in grant money given to the counties by the Commerce Department to rent hotel rooms and other facilities for the homeless.

Anne Deacon with the county Health Department says they’re already accommodating more people by moving the Lighthouse Mission emergency shelter to Bellingham High School where they can take in up to 200 people.

She says they are looking for more facilities, especially where they could house people people who are ill in quarantine.

Anyone who can help with facilities or equipment is encouraged to contact the Whatcom County Health Department.
