WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. – Whatcom County Republicans have announced their three nominees to fill the late State Senator Doug Ericksen’s position.
They are Ben Elenbaas, Tawsha Dykstra Thompson and Simon Sefzik.
Elenbaas currently represents District 5 on the Whatcom County Council.
Sefzik is the son of Jennifer Sefzik, who ran an unsuccessful campaign for the state legislature in the 42nd District in November 2020.
The county council is expected to choose one of the nominees to serve out Ericksen’s term at its meeting tomorrow, Tuesday, January 4th.
It’s unclear whether Elenbaas will take part in the selection process.
Senator Ericksen died at age 52 on December 17th after announcing in early November that he had COVID-19.
