WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. – Whatcom County gained 2,700 jobs over the past year for a 2.9-percent increase.

December’s unemployment rate was up a bit from November – 5 percent from 4.3.

But Employment Security Economist Anneliese Vance-Sherman says it was below the 5.8-percent jobless rate we saw in December 2016, leading to a downward year to year trend.

She says we’ve seen growth in almost all sectors of the economy and more people are actively looking for work.
