Whatcom County set another record in the real estate market, for highest median home prices sold in 2017.
Countywide median prices jumped 9.2 percent from 2016, making the median home price in the county $344,000, according to Bellingham-based Mujat Group Realtors.
Though there was an increase in housing prices, home sales varied dramatically over the year and decreased 3.4 percent across the county.
The Muljat Group said the decrease is attributed to tight inventory but additional inventory is expected to come online in 2018.
Interest rates are predicted to rise from their historic low in the coming year, and combined with the increase in housing inventory this could slow the rate of housing appreciation.
