BELLINGHAM, Wash. – It’s another sign of the pandemic slowing down in Whatcom County.

The County Health Department announced that their COVID-19 isolation room program, which began on April 1st of this year, will be closed at the end of the month.

Officials said that no one has requested to use the facility at the Baymont Inn and Suites since it opened.

Additionally, the Health Department cited the CDC’s “low” community infection level for the county as another reason to shut down the program.

The isolation program was created after county officials shut down the COVID quarantine facility at the former Motel 6 on Byron Ave.

That facility had been in frequent use since the start of the pandemic until its closure in late March.
