BELLINGHAM, Wash. — The Whatcom Humane Society saved a trumpeter swan that had suspected lead poisoning when it was found in Skagit County in January.

The Skagit Valley Herald reports the swan was taken to the Humane Society’s wildlife rehabilitation center after rescuers noticed it was wobbly and stumbling.

Lead poisoning is common for birds that ingest buckshot.

The swan was released back to the wild earlier this month after several weeks of treatment.
