BLAINE, Wash. — More than 1,400 acres of wildlife habitat in Whatcom County have been permanently protected.
The Whatcom Land Trust announced two recent land purchases — one encompassing California Creek in Drayton Harbor and the other at Skookum Creek on the South Fork Nooksack River.
The Land Trust says the $4 million Skookum Creek purchase and campaign represents one of the largest privately-supported community campaigns in their organization’s history.
The acre of land purchased near the Drayton Harbor shoreline is adjacent to the previously acquired 11.5-acre property purchased in 2017, which makes room for a public park in the future.
