BELLINGHAM, WA.- A Whatcom County man is in jail facing first degree rape charges after police say he sexually abused his daughter for six years.
Whatcom County Undersheriff Jeff Parks says the victim was placed with the man, whom she didn’t know, when she was 10-years-old.
A friend of the girl told a school counselor who then notified police about the reports of abuse.
Parks says they arrested the man this week and he is accused of sexually abusing the girl from 2011 until last spring.
KGMI is not identifying the suspect at this time to protect the privacy of the victim.
