BELLINGHAM, WASH – The Federal Government claimed The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office wasn’t enforcing immigration laws, the Sheriff disagreed.
Now it looks like Immigration and Customs Enforcement may agree with him.
Sheriff Bill Elfo told KGMI he was surprised the county was on the “non-cooperative” list.
He took his concerns to ICE.
Elfo says the agency told him it appeared the County should not have been listed as “non-cooperative”.
He says ICE agreed to help get the Sheriff’s Office removed from the list.
Elfo says the agency told him counties across the country are voicing similar objections and the issue may take some time to resolve.
