BELLINGHAM, WA – (KGMI.com) More shelter space is being made ahead of frigid and snowy weather in Whatcom County this week.
High temperatures in Whatcom County are forecast to drop down to 19 degrees on Friday and stay below freezing throughout the weekend.
The National Weather Service says there is a 45% chance for an inch of snow starting Wednesday night.
Wind chill can also lower temperatures to -8 degrees Thursday night.
Bellingham’s Severe Weather Shelter on N State Street will be open from 5 p.m. to 8 a.m. beginning Wednesday night and extending through this Sunday.
Snacks, water and coffee will all be provided at the shelter, which operates on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Ferndale’s Severe Weather Shelter will be open from 5:30 p.m. to 8 a.m. from Wednesday through Sunday as well.
Food, clothes, hot showers and laundry services will also be available at that location.
Additional shelter space will be available at the Civic Field locker rooms and at Base Camp.
