RENTON, Wash. (AP) — The governing body of Washington high school sports has moved the football season to spring of 2021 because of the pandemic, saying there aren’t enough counties in Phase III of the state re-opening plan.
The WIAA announced the delaying of the season for moderate and high-risk team sports on Tuesday night.
The football season would now run from early March into May.
Cross country, slowpitch softball, golf and tennis are slated to begin practices the week of Sept. 7, while the start of girls’ swim and dive season depends on more information from the Washington Department of Health.
The remaining fall sports of girls’ soccer, 1B/2B boys soccer, volleyball and football will now be scheduled to begin in the early spring of 2021 as part of WIAA Season 3.
