OLYMPIA, Wash. — A rare consensus vote in the state House yesterday.
House Bill 1168 would create a dedicated fund to prevent and fight wildfires in Washington and passed 96-0.
Kirkland Representative Larry Springer sponsored the bill.
The bill, promoted by Commissioner of Public Lands Hilary Franz, would spend $75 million every two years to hire and train more firefighters, buy more airplanes and helicopters, improve leadership and improve fire detection systems.
The 20 year plan now heads to the Senate.
