BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Air quality has steadily deteriorated in Bellingham through the day and won’t improve for a couple more days.

“It’s going to be a rough couple of days,” said Seth Preston with the Northwest Air Quality Agency.

They had originally hoped winds would shift overnight and start to move the smoke out of the region, Preston said.

“The latest forecast we’ve seen through State Department of Ecology is that the smoke is probably going to be sticking around until around Thursday,” he told KGMI.

Preston cautions everyone to protect themselves from the smoke, especially people in poor health.

“If they have compromised breathing issues already, then they need to be mindful of that, and take what steps they can, including, if necessary, talking to a medical provider,” he said.

It’s possible we could see falling ash here, as they saw some in Mount Vernon Tuesday.
