JURUPA VALLEY, Calif. – The Western Washington University women’s golf team moved up one spot to finish its spring-opening tournament in 15th place at The Lancer Joust hosted by California Baptist University at Goose Creek Golf Club.

The Vikings had a four-shot improvement from Monday’s first round, finishing Tuesday’s final round with a team score of 36-over-par 324.

Junior Stephanie Sewell (Kent, WA/Kentridge) led the Vikings contingent tying for 51st place in the 96-player field, firing the low round by a Viking player in the tournament with a second round 7-over-par 79.

Senior Jenn Paul (Bellingham, WA), junior Annie Leete (Oak Harbor, WA/Eastern Washington) and freshman Megan Billeter (Spokane, WA/Mt. Spokane) all tied for 63rd place at 20-over-par 164 for the 36-hole tournament.

Tournament host Cal Baptist recorded a six-stroke team victory finishing the tournament at +15 (591), out-pacing second-place Cal State San Marcos (+21, 597). California Baptist junior Yifei Wang won individual medalist honors finishing at 2-over-par 146 for the tournament, beating out Bergen Benedict of Cal State San Marcos in a one-hole playoff.

WWU returns to action next week (March 5-6) at the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout hosted by Cal State East Bay at Callippe Preserve Golf Course.
