WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. – Air quality in Whatcom County’s Columbia Valley area has deteriorated and the Northwest Clean Air Agency has announced a Stage 2 burn ban for that neighborhood.
Cold stagnant air in the area near Kendall is not allowing smoke from wood burning to clear out.
Under the ban, all wood burning in fireplaces, fireplace inserts, woodstoves and pellet stoves is banned.
All outdoor burning is also banned.
The only exceptions are for people who have formal exemptions from the agency.
