BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Workers at the Starbucks at Iowa and King Streets in Bellingham have voted to unionize.
The unanimous vote on Friday, June 24th, makes it the first Starbucks in Whatcom County to welcome a union.
The Cascadia Daily News reports that 23 of the store’s 31 eligible voters submitted a ballot and three were contested.
The remaining 20 were all in favor of the union.
The workers say they feel the need for protections for wages and hours and want to have more of a voice in their workplace.
Workers at a Starbucks in Cordata also plan to hold a vote on unionization.
