DIABLO, Wash. — Crews are beginning preparations to reopen SR-20, the North Cascades Highway.
WSDOT reports crews began clearing snow from the area on Monday and they expect to finish in 4-6 weeks as make necessary repairs to the highway before opening the gates to travelers.
SR-20 connects the Skagit and Methow valleys to provide another route between the western and eastern part of the state, but the 37-mile stretch over the mountains is only open seasonally.
Last year, the highway reopened on May 11.
